One of the building blocks of basic Pokémon games are the random trainer encounters that players must face throughout their Pokémon journey. From the very first Bug Catcher with its three Weedle to top-level game trainers, these NPCs offer challenges, XP, and rewards. As part of the upcoming Pokémon Go Tour: Kanto event, Niantic will recreate this experience by adding these random encounters to the map. During the event to be held on February 20, 2021, players will be able to find NPC trainers while moving around the map, battling to complete a special timed research and earn awesome rewards.
However, these trainers will not be just randomly generated trainers. They will be based on real Pokémon Go players and you could be one of them! All players over or over the legal age of majority can participate by following these simple steps:
- Take a screenshot of your trainer profile which includes your trainer name and shows your avatar outfit.
- List three Pokémon that would make your team, along with all non-legendary, non-mythical, and non-ditto Pokémon from the Kanto region.
- Post the screenshot and list on Twitter using the hashtag # PokémonGOTourContest.
Entries will be judged based on the creativity of the outfit, the overall theme, and the lineup of the Pokémon team. For more details, be sure to read the contest rules.
