The Pokémon GO Unova Collection Challenge has been released a couple of hours, or even a day, earlier than initially expected. According to Niantic’s January 2021 event calendar, the Unova celebration event starts tomorrow at 10:00 am local time, and we were not expecting to see anything related to the collection challenge before then.
Unova Collection Challenge
According to Today View, you have 7 days to catch the following Pokémon and complete the Unova Collection Challenge:
The rarity of the Featured Challenge Pokémon seems a bit too high for the Unova Challenge, but we need to see what the Unova Celebration Event spawn chart looks like before we make the final judgment.
You can see the challenge on the Today View screen:
If you are looking to get a head start on completing this challenge, here are some tips and tricks:
- Lillipup will be in Pokémon Spotlight tomorrow, January 5
- Snivy, Oshawott and Tepig are sometimes found in the wild, not common, but recently I had a few that used Frankincense. They are also available in 2 km eggs.
- Solosis, Blitzle and Roggenrola are currently available in 5km eggs and in wild encounters.
- Ferroseed is currently available in 10km eggs, not sure I’ve seen a wild one … ever? In a moment?
What are collection challenges?
Haven’t heard of collection challenges? Don’t worry, it’s okay, they aren’t live yet.
Collection Challenges are an upcoming feature to be announced that will be available in early January. Collection Challenges are timed challenges that task you with catching a Niantic-provided set of Pokémon (also known as a Collection) during an event. Completing the challenge seems to improve your elite collector’s medal, which is a mystery at the moment.
As expected, Collection Challenges seem like a fun way to promote select Pokémon during events. We have no idea how the new Elite Collector medal is going to work, but there will be a time-based component for sure.
Everything we know about collection challenges has been gleaned from data early last year.
