Trainers, Niantic just updated their official known issues page with a notable change: Team GO Rocket encounters are now scheduled to be fixed in an upcoming Pokémon GO update.
We previously reported that Team GO Rocket was still disabled with an unknown return date, and not much has changed; We still don’t know when they will appear again, but at least we know that the problem has been fixed.
The problem has been described with the following status update:
Team GO Rocket Grunt encounters sometimes freeze the game.
Description of the problem: Sometimes when a trainer starts a battle with Team GO Rocket, the game freezes and stops responding. This issue has been mitigated by temporarily removing Team GO Rocket encounters until it can be resolved.
Problem status: Doing researchProblem status: Fixed in an upcoming update
Interestingly, it appears that the solution requires a client-side upgrade to Pokémon GO, rather than a server-side change. It is not clear at this time what the underlying problem was, perhaps a memory leak? – but we hope to find out in a future data mine on this update.
