What is the Mountains of Power event in Pokémon Go?

Mountains of Power is a storyline event in Pokémon Go that will see Spark lead players to unlock the second mechanic for Professor Willow’s mysterious door found in the ancient caves. As you traverse mountains similar to Sinnoh and Johto, players will be able to catch and fight numerous Rock and Steel-type Pokémon, perform field and timed research, and more! The event will feature Mega Aerodactyl and Shiny Slugma.
When does the Mountains of Power event take place in Pokémon Go?
The Mountains of Power event runs from Friday January 7 to Thursday January 13, 2022.

During Mountains of Power, players will be able to catch the following Pokémon:
- Toothed*
- Machop *
- Geodude *
- Onix *
- Slugma *
- Pass-through *

Field research

During Mountains of Power, players will be able to spin PokéStops and Gyms for the following event’s exclusive Field Research tasks:
- Hatch an egg for an Alolan Geodude encounter *
- Walk a KM for a Slugma encounter *
- Earn two candies walking with your Pokémon buddy for a Mawile encounter *
Timed search

During Mountains of Power, players will be able to complete the timed research line exclusive to the following event:
The first step
- Catch five Pokémon for a Slugma encounter *
- Earn two candies walking with your Pokémon buddy for a Ferroseed encounter *
- Hatch an egg for an Alolan Geodude encounter *
Completion Rewards: Absol encounter, ten Great Balls, 1,000 Stardust
Second step
- Catch six different species of Pokémon for a Chimecho encounter *
- Earn two candies walking with your Pokémon buddy for an Onix encounter *
- Hatch two eggs for a meeting with Beldum *
Completion Rewards: Mawile * encounter, ten Ultra Balls, 2000 Stardust
