Today, March 25, 2020, Niantic used Twitter to announces changes to Pokémon Go search tasks. These changes are made in direct response to the current global health crisis caused by the new coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19. Although Niantic did not provide a list of specific tasks being edited, it indicated that certain research tasks that may be difficult to perform without leaving your home will be deleted for the foreseeable future. This follows the recent change in society to the special paid research event: An effort to investigate, in which the required research tasks were designed to be accomplished while taking safe social distancing measures, as well as many Gameplay changes made to support social distancing measures. .
The current research tasks most likely to be affected by this decision are to go to gyms or PokéStops. These include:
- Battle in a gymnasium
- Win a gym battle
- Battle in a raid
- Defeat 3 Team Go Rocket Grunts
- Battle in a gymnasium 5 times
- Win a level 3 or higher raid
- Win 5 raids
- Use a super effective charged attack in 7 gym battles
- Win 3 gym battles
- Send 10 gifts to friends
It is also possible that the following search tasks, which still require leaving the house, but which can be performed without going to PokéStops and gyms, may also be affected by this decision:
- Hatched an egg
- Chop 3 eggs
- Hatched 5 eggs
Again, Niantic did not specify which tasks to delete. Players who have already retrieved these tasks will still be able to complete them and collect the rewards, but they will no longer be deleted from PokéStops. At the moment, players who can safely access PokéStops should still be able to collect research tasks that can also be done at home.
