Pokemon Go’s raid bosses have shifted once again, bringing back another legendary Pokemon for a limited time. Xerneas, the cover monster from Pokemon X, is appearing as a five-star raid boss until Oct. 20, giving you another chance to add one to your collection. On top of that, there’s a chance the legendary Pokemon could be shiny.
Here are some tips to help you defeat and catch Xerneas before it leaves the raid rotation.
Xerneas raid hours
Xerneas will appear as a five-star raid boss from Oct. 8 to Oct. 20. These raids will occur periodically, but you’ll have more opportunities to join one on Oct. 12 and Oct. 19, when Pokemon Go hosts its weekly Raid Hour event. More Xerneas raids will be happening at gyms from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time on those evenings, giving you more chances to battle and catch the legendary Pokemon.
Xerneas weaknesses
Xerneas is a pure fairy-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak to only two types: poison and steel. Either will be helpful when battling the legendary Pokemon, but be sure to avoid using any dragon types; not only does Xerneas resist dragon moves, it deals supereffective damage to dragon Pokemon.
Best Xerneas counters
Here are some recommended Pokemon and moves to use when battling Xerneas:
Poison
Mega Beedrill: Poison Jab, Sludge Bomb.
Roserade: Poison Jab, Sludge Bomb.
Muk: Poison Jab, Gunk Shot.
Vileplume: Acid, Sludge Bomb.
Nidoking: Poison Jab, Earth Power/Sludge Wave.
Steel
Metagross: Bullet Punch, Meteor Mash.
Dialga: Metal Claw, Iron Head.
Cobalion: Metal Claw, Iron Head.
Zacian: Metal Claw, Iron Head.
Zamazenta: Metal Claw, Iron Head.
Best moveset for Xerneas
Despite being a fairy Pokemon, Xerneas is currently capable of learning only a single fairy-type move, so you’d be better served teaching it other kinds of attacks. In terms of damage output, Xerneas will fare best if it knows the Fast Attack Tackle and the Charged Attack Giga Impact.
If you’d rather take advantage of its fairy typing, you can alternatively teach it the Fast Attack Zen Headbutt and the Charged Attack Moonblast. Since the latter move is the same type as Xerneas, it’ll get a power boost when used.
Apple has a lot in store for 2023. Its biggest focus of the year seems to be on its extended reality headset. With the annual iPhone upgrade underway and some Mac upgrades planned, it looks like Apple won’t have the bandwidth to release much more in 2023.
Mark Gurman, in his latest Power On newslettersaid that most Apple products will not get a major upgrade in 2023. These include the Apple Watch, iPad, AirPods, and Apple TV, which will all be taking a backseat in 2023, as Apple tries to enter the AR/VR market.
Not just hardware, but iOS and iPadOS will also take a backseat
Gurman has talked about the Apple Reality Pro XR headset coming in 2023, likely in a spring event before WWDC 2023. We’ve also heard about upgrades to the best Macs coming, with the Mac Pro refresh, as well as M2 family-powered versions of the MacBook Pro. It looks like with those releases, Apple isn’t looking to upgrade much else.
About new iPads for 2023, Gurman said he doesn’t expect any major upgrades, with the bigger iPads coming next year, along with the upgraded 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models featuring OLED screens. Other iPad models are also unlikely to get an upgrade in 2023, and even if they do, they’ll be minor spec bumps.
Gurman had a similar update about other Apple products as well, saying,
“The Apple Watch and other accessories will be a similar story:
I wouldn’t anticipate major changes to the Apple Watch’s hardware this year, save for some minor performance boosts.
The AirPods probably won’t get any updates of note in 2023 either.
The return of the larger HomePod size is still set for this year, but I wouldn’t expect anything revolutionary about it. Look for a lower price, an updated touch control panel on the top and the S8 chip from the latest Apple Watches in a design similar to the model from 2018.
There are no plans for a new Apple TV to launch in 2023.“
Apple also won’t make any grand changes to iOS, iPadOS, and even macOS says Gurman. Apparently, xrOS, the operating system powering Apple’s XR headset, is taking up most of Apple’s focus, which means its other software will ship with fewer features than previously planned.
Gurman says it won’t affect the iPhone 15, though. We can expect “impressive” hardware, and the Dynamic Island will be available across all models, in addition to USB-C connectivity. Being one of the company’s most popular products, it makes sense Apple wouldn’t want the XR development to affect the iPhone.
It might only be the first week of January, but we’ve already seen predictions for what to expect from Nintendo in 2023. According to at least one trusted analyst, the next-gen Nintendo console isn’t part of the plan. In other news, there were two developments involving The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, including images of a supposedly leaked Zelda-themed Switch OLED.
Additionally, Game Freak who is best known as the developer behind the Pokémon series is releasing a revamped version of a cult classic game — but oddly enough, this title isn’t coming to Nintendo Switch. It also turns out that the Mario Kart 7 patch that Nintendo released a few weeks ago was for a far more serious problem than we knew about. Let’s dive in!
Analyst predicts next-gen Nintendo console won’t release until 2024
The start of a new year is always an exciting time for Nintendo fans. It feels like anything is possible and we’ve got a long list of highly-anticipated Switch games coming out in 2023 to look forward to.
Many tech analysts are looking ahead and making predictions on what they expect to come out in the next 12 months, which is the common practice at the start of a new year. As part of this, gamesindustry.biz (opens in new tab) spoke with a panel of trusted analysts including Piers Harding-Rolls who says he doesn’t expect a “next-gen Nintendo console in 2023,” but rather has “2024 in our forecasts.”
While Harding-Rolls isn’t the final say on this matter, it does seem likely that Nintendo would wait to release a new console until The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been out for a while, especially if the leaks are real that Nintendo is producing a Zelda-themed Switch OLED to launch alongside the game (more on that later).
Now that we’re six years into the Nintendo Switch’s life it’s getting to the point where Nintendo must seriously be considering when to announce its next-gen console. The hybrid system might be selling well still, but the performance issues of many of the Switch’s biggest releases in 2022 show that it’s time for a new gaming system or Switch 2. Nintendo’s philosophy has long centered on using older technology to provide unique experiences, but the components used in the Switch were already outdated at the time of its release and so the system is really starting to show its age these days. At any rate, it’s more than likely that we’ll at least get the next-gen console announcement by 2024.
We’ll get a better idea of what to expect for Nintendo in 2023 sometime in February as this is often when The Pokémon Company has its Pokémon Presents presentation and Nintendo hosts its first Nintendo Direct of the year. Together these shows give a decent roadmap for what’s coming in the next few months and can help us determine when or if big changes are incoming.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leaks and rumors
There were two potential leaks recently regarding The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Considering that we’ve got about five months to go before the sequel releases on May 12 it’s not too surprising that leaks and rumors for this highly-anticipated game are already ramping up.
These images show a white Switch OLED dock with the iconic Royal Crest — complete with Triforce and wings — printed in a golden hue in the center of the dock. The Joy-Cons appear to have a similar gold on the front with turquoise designs on the left side akin to the weird look of Link’s arm in the Tears of the Kingdom trailers. On the right Joy-Con and back side of the Switch, there are ripple patterns reminiscent of the motif found in shrines. However, the backsides of the Joy-Con halves aren’t gold, but white with small golden designs near the bottom.
It’s honestly hard to say if this is a true leak or if it’s just someone’s way of getting attention. However, considering that Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated Switch games this year it only makes sense that Nintendo will release a limited edition Switch OLED around the same time as the game like it did with the Splatoon 3 Switch OLED and the Scarlet and Purple Switch OLED. In my own opinion, the boring look of this design is so uninspired that it feels like it could be real.
Even if it is real, this could simply be a prototype or an early version of a Switch OLED version rather than what actually comes out later this year. With any luck, the Zelda Switch OLED that does come out will look much better than this one.
Zelda Tears of the Kingdom ad shows Nintendo Switch Online functionality
The day before the purported Zelda-themed Switch OLED leak, the internet grew excited when u/Few_Working3350 (opens in new tab) on Reddit posted an image of an advertisement for Tears of the Kingdom that showed that the upcoming game will have some kind of Nintendo Switch Online functionality (thanks, GameRant (opens in new tab)).
This of course, got fans talking about possible multiplayer in the sequel, whether that means exploring and fighting together or getting some kind of interactive experience where players can leave messages for each other like they can in Elden Ring. Fans have long hoped for a multiplayer Hyrule experience as we’ve seen with the many fan-made Breath of the Wild multiplayer mods that have released over the last few years.
While I would love for multiplayer to be part of this sequel, Nintendo Switch Online is probably simply there for cloud saves and backing up game data. It’s clearly visible on the right side of the leaked ad that this is a single-player game in all modes and an online multiplayer option isn’t likely. However, it is still possible that Nintendo could surprise us with new features for the game since we don’t really know much about it yet. With any luck, we’ll learn more about the sequel in February with the year’s first Nintendo Direct.
Zelda amiibo reprints appear to be incoming
Anyone who collects amiibo knows that Zelda amiibo are some of the rarest and most expensive Nintendo NFC collectibles out there. This is partially due to their fantastic designs and partially because Breath of the Wild offered some of the best amiibo rewards of any Switch game. For example, the ability to unlock Epona the horse from Ocarina of Time or being able to make Wolf Link fight alongside you.
Due to this previous, many fans have wondered if the sequel will also use amiibo. Thanks to some new information, it’s looking like this could be the case.
On Tuesday, a French e-commerce site called Fnac (opens in new tab) had a large list of Zelda amiibo preorders go live on their site (thanks, NintendoWire). This included basically all of the Zelda amiibo ever made with only the newest Zelda Loftwing, champions, Shiek, and Ganondorf missing from the list.
There currently has been no indication that these Zelda amiibo will appear at any other retailers, but chances are high that at least some of them will if they have shown up here. This also likely means there is amiibo functionality in Tears of the Kingdom if Nintendo is making reprints. With any luck, this means we’ll be getting announcements for brand new Zelda amiibo as well. I really want to get one with long-haired Link in his toga.
Fire Emblem Engage is going back to its combat roots
Fire Emblem Engage is set to release in a couple of weeks on January 20, 2023 and previews for the game have already gone up on various media sites. Previewers had mostly positive things to say with the general consensus being that Engage is going back to focusing more on strategic battles than Fire Emblem: Three Houses did.
One of the ways it shifts focus militaristically is by going back to the triangle combat system where sword beats axe, ax beats lance, and lance beats sword. Additionally, it seems that several warrior classes that haven’t been used in recent FE games are returning.
If you’re the kind of person who like to think strategically with tactical turn-based RPGs then you really ought to consider checking Engage out when it launches.
Mario Kart 7 patch fixed a major problem
A few weeks ago, I talked about how strange it was that Mario Kart 7 got an update after 10 years without receiving any patches. Well, now some new information has come to light that shows that this update was more important than we initially knew as it fixed a very serious vulnerability.
According to @Pablomf6 on Twitter who was one of three users who reported the issue to Nintendo’s HackerOne program, the patch fixed “a severe vulnerability in many first party 3DS, Wii U and Switch games. [The vulnerability] allows remote code execution in a victim console by just having an online game session with an attacker.” They went on to say, “Combined with other OS exploits, this vulnerability could allow an attacker to achieve full console takeover, and steal sentitive [sic] information or take audio/video recordings.” The thread goes on to explain that @Pablomf6 received a “$1,000 bounty” for reporting this issue to Nintendo.
Here is ENLBufferPwn (CVE ID pending), a severe vulnerability in many first party 3DS, Wii U and Switch games. It allows remote code execution in a victim console by just having an online game session with an attacker. Considering that Mario Kart 7 offers online and local wireless multiplayer, this exploit could have made it very easy for nefarious persons to steal your information or take recordings simply by playing a round with you. So it’s good to see that Nintendo made the game safer for players, even if it is an older title.
Game Freak game heading to Apple Arcade and not Switch
We got some strange news this week when we learned that the primary developers of the Pokémon series are releasing a new version of the cult classic 3DS game, Pocket Card Jockey — but not on Nintendo Switch (thanks, VGC (opens in new tab)). According to a trademark filed by Game Freak this new version with revamped visuals is coming strictly to iOS users via Apple Arcade in the form of Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On!
While not the biggest title Game Freak has released, Pocket Card Jockey does have a cult following and is rated highly on Metacritic with an 83 Metascore. The basic idea is horse racing mixed with Solitaire for a very familiar-yet-satisfying experience. The Apple Arcade version has been reworked to function on one screen rather than the dual screen of the 3DS.
It’s possible that the game could also come to Nintendo Switch in the future, but as of right now, there is no proof of that being in the works. At any rate, it seems odd that Game Freak chose to release this revamped version as an Apple Arcade game rather than bringing it to Switch, but the reasoning for that is unknown at this time.
A new year for Nintendo
There are many exciting things in store for Nintendo fans in 2023. Of course, there’s the buzz around Tears of the Kingdom which isn’t just one of the most highly-anticipated Switch games but is also one of the most highly-anticipated video games of this year regardless of platform. We’re bound to get more leaks and rumors as we draw closer to this game’s release, which will give us a better idea of what to expect from the sequel. Hopefully, we get more details with the year’s first Nintendo Direct, which usually comes in February.
You may only just be getting your head around all the bells and whistles of the most recent macOS release, but time waits for no man nor any Mac. So as sure as the sun sets and the moon rises, macOS 14 is in the works somewhere in Apple’s software labs in Cupertino.
The next macOS update, like new versions of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS, will not officially be released until this fall. But we’ll hear much more about them earlier, of course, with Apple’s annual WWDC conference in the summer your best bet for the first appearance of new macOS goodies.
The next version of macOS, a successor to macOS 13 Ventura, may contain several new and updated features — or end up being a ho-hum update, at best. Regardless, we’ll update this post as more details about macOS 14 are discovered between now and the announcement.
Here’s everything we know about macOS 14 — and a few predictions and wishlist items of our own.
macOS 14 name: What’s in a name? And where?
For many years, macOS (and before it, MacOS X and OS X) versions were named after cats such as Tiger, Snow Leopard, and Puma. Beginning with macOS Mavericks in 2013, versions started including names of California locations such as Big Sur, Yosemite, and El Capitan. Apple will likely continue the current naming conventions when macOS 14 is released later this year. Names mentioned in past years that haven’t yet been used in 2023 include Mammoth, Sequoia, Sonoma, and Redwood.
If Cupertino moves in a different direction, how about expanding macOS names beyond the California border? How does macOS Rocky Mountains or macOS Everglades sound? Or go even further with macOS Milky Way or macOS Mars?
macOS 14 is coming this year, and it needs a new name, but is it time for Apple to look beyond California for inspiration?January 5, 2023

Possible new features and the latest rumors
The macOS 14 rumor mill is still very quiet as the year begins. However, that will surely change in the coming weeks. While we wait to hear news about the update, a good starting point for anticipation is to look at the iPhone and iPad and see whether any features on those devices would also work on macOS.
Let’s start with widgets. Currently, these are located in the Notification Center on macOS, where they are hidden, making them less valuable. On iPhone and iPad, you can add widgets anywhere on the Home page; on macOS 14, perhaps Apple will allow us to add these to the desktop and make them more useful.
Stage Manager improvements would also be welcomed. The feature, also available through iPadOS on select iPad models, debuted with macOS 13 Ventura. Though genuinely good, there remains a learning curve associated with how best to use Stage Manager on Mac. An excellent place for a reboot would be to add some right-click functionality to the thumbnails associated with the feature; that would add clarity to window groups or the moving between apps.
With macOS 14, we might also see more mobile apps jump to Mac. Last year, Apple brought the Weather and Clock apps to macOS from iOS. This year, the Translation app would be an appropriate candidate. Other mobile apps would also be helpful on Mac, but more on that later…
Release date
Assuming Apple sticks to its regular schedule, macOS 14 will likely be released in October or November. In 2022, for example, macOS Ventura was released on October 24. A year earlier, macOS Monterey arrived on October 25. During the Covid year 2020, macOS Big Sur didn’t launch until November 12. The last time a macOS version launched in September was in 2018, when macOS Mojave was released on September 24.
Beta testers will first get their hands on the macOS beta release earlier, however, after it’s (almost certainly) announced at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which will likely kick off on Monday, June 5.
Supported devices
Whenever new versions of macOS are released, older Macs are left behind in terms of compatibility. Typically (but not officially), Macs tend to support the latest version of macOS for at least seven years from when the model was first released, including the best Macs on the market, including the five-star-rated MacBook Air (2022).
Today, the oldest Macs that support macOS Ventura were released in 2017. This suggests every mac that supports Ventura will also work with macOS 14. But we’ll need official confirmation upon release to be sure.
What we want to see
There are various ways Apple could improve macOS in 2023. this list will likely grow in the coming weeks.
Health and Watch app integration should launch on Mac if only so we can review this information on a larger screen. There’s a security element Apple would need to consider to get this done. But as Apple’s new Advanced Data Protection for iCloud service provides, the company does have some experience in this area, no?
Apple has done an admirable job of adding new features to the native Mail app in recent years, such as last year’s introduction of the undo send and schedule send features. However, a significant Mail app design changes is in order this year. It feels stale compared to other apps on Mac, especially those that jumped from mobile in recent years, such as News, Weather, and Stocks.
HAS more user-friendly password/passcode manager would also be helpful. Better still, move this information from System Settings into a separate app. That way, the new passcode feature could specifically find a bigger audience.
It would also be great to see the Clock app alarms synced across multiple devices, or at least an option to do so. While this hasn’t yet happened makes zero sense.
Finally, Apple should find a way to connect and interact the Mac with its upcoming reality/xrOSandApple VR headset. The form this would take largely depends on what the company’s new AR/VR headset can do, but we can easily foresee being able to use Continuity features to interact with Mac applications while using an Apple headset. There’s still lots shrouded in secrecy around that launch, and there’s enormous potential here.
We’ll update this post often. Until then, hit that bookmark, and check back for more macOS 14 news and rumors soon.
Truth Be Told is coming back soon and has a brand-new trailer to prove it.
Today, Apple reiterated that the third season of Truth Be Told, which will star Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer and Gabrielle Union, will premiere on Apple TV Plus on Friday, January 20, 2023. In addition to hyping the official premiere date, the company also released the official trailer for the new season.
In the official trailer, you can get a first look at both Spencer and Union in the latest season. Apple markets the new season by saying “knowing who to trust is only half the battle in the fight for justice. Gabrielle Union joins Octavia Spencer for a new season of Truth Be Told on January 20 on Apple TV+.”
You can check out the teaser trailer for Shrinking on YouTube below:
What is season three be about?
In season three, “Poppy (Spencer), frustrated by the lack of media attention for several young missing Black girls, teams with an unorthodox principal (Union) to keep the victims’ names in the public eye, while chasing down leads to a suspicion sex trafficking ring that may have ensnared them. In addition to Union, season three stars returning cast members Mekhi Phifer, David Lyons, Ron Cephas Jones, Merle Dandridge, Tracie Thoms, Haneefah Wood, Mychala Faith Lee and Tami Roman.”
The new season will be told over the course of ten episodes. The first episode will debut when the season premieres with each additional episode being released weekly on Fridays. The third season will wrap up with its finale on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Dell has announced a new display that could take on Apple’s Pro Display XDR and Studio Display.
Today at CES 2023, Dell announced the Dell UltraSharp 32 6K Monitor. In a press release (opens in new tab), the company said that the display is the “world’s first 6K-resolution monitor with IPS Black panel technology.” Dell says that the display technology provides higher contrast and deeper blacks and features “exceptional details, sharpness, and color accuracy.”
You can check out an introduction video of the new monitor on YouTube below:
Dell is bringing the receipts
The company said that, after commissioning a study of monitor technology, they found that “monitors with IPS Black technology offer up to 41% deeper black levels3**and up to 1.2 times better color accuracy than conventional IPS4**especially in displaying low grays .”
In addition to the display technology, the new monitor also packs a built-in webcam and speakers. Dell says that the external display features a “dual gain HDR 4K webcam and provides auto framing, light adjustments plus enhanced clarity, automatic SafeShutter, echo cancellation mic and dual 14W speakers for an intelligent and more secure collaboration experience.”
The monitor also features DisplayPort 2.1 and ThunderboltTM 4 connectivity which, together with Extended Power Range, provides up to 140W power delivery.
The new monitor seems to go after both Apple’s Pro Display XDR and the newer Studio Display. While the Pro Display XDR features 6K resolution, it does not feature a built-in webcam and speakers like the Studio Display. Dell is packing all of those features into one product.
The company says that the monitor will launch “in the first half of 2023” but has not yet provided pricing. However, if it comes in lower than Apple’s $4999 Pro Display XDR (no stand included) and the $1599 Studio Display, Dell will have a hit on their hands. I would certainly be interested.
Mega Gyardos is making a brief encore appearance in Pokemon Go. The Mega-Evolved Pokemon is back in gyms as part of a special Raid Day mini-event today, giving you another chance to battle it and earn energy to Mega Evolve your own Gyarados. On top of that, there’s an increased chance the Gyarados you encounter in raids will be shiny.
Here are some tips to help you defeat Mega Gyarados before Raid Day ends.
Mega Gyarados raid hours
Mega Gyarados is only appearing in raids today (Oct. 8) as part of Pokemon Go’s Raid Day mini-event. You’ll have a chance to encounter the Mega-Evolved Pokemon in gyms from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time.
Mega Gyarados weaknesses
Although Gyarados is normally a water/flying Pokemon, its type changes to water/dark when it Mega Evolves, giving it a different set of weaknesses. In particular, Mega Gyarados is vulnerable to electric, grass, fighting, bug and fairy, so you’ll want to stack your team with Pokemon of those types when battling one.
Best Mega Gyarados counters
Here are some recommended Pokemon and moves to use when joining a Mega Gyarados raid:
Electric
Zapdos: Thunder Shock, Thunderbolt.
Raikou: Thunder Shock, Wild Charge.
Electivire: Thunder Shock, Wild Charge.
Therian Forme Thundurus: Volt Switch, Thunderbolt.
Zekrom: Charge Beam, Wild Charge.
Grass
Mega Venusaur: Razor Leaf, Frenzy Plant.

Breloom: Counter, Dynamic Punch.
Hariyama: Counter, Dynamic Punch.
Conkeldurr: Counter, Dynamic Punch.
Bug
Mega Beedrill: Bug Bite, X-Scissor.
Mega Scizor: Fury Cutter, X-Scissor.
Yanmega: Bug Bite, Bug Buzz.
Genesect: Fury Cutter, X-Scissor.
Pheromosa: Bug Bite, Bug Buzz.
Fairy
Clefable: Charm, Dazzling Gleam.
Granbull: Charm, Play Rough.
Gardevoir: Charm, Dazzling Gleam.
Togekiss: Charm, Dazzling Gleam.
Sylveon: Charm, Moonblast.
Best moveset for Mega Gyarados
Gyarados is already one of the strongest water Pokemon in the game, and it becomes even more fearsome after Mega Evolving. Though it can learn a couple of dark-type attacks, it’ll dish out the most damage if it knows the water-type moves Waterfall and Hydro Pump.
A woman used an AirTag to track down her luggage after United Airlines lost it…and tried to act like they didn’t.
Valerie Szybala took to Twitter to share the story, saying that she knew that her luggage was lost by United due to being able to track its location with the AirTag that was stored inside of it.
I’d just like everyone to know that @united has lost track of my bag and is lying about it. My apple AirTag shows that it has been sitting in a residential apartment complex for over a day. Out back by the dumpsters, I have found other emptied United Airlines bags. pic.twitter.com/fcoq4nj3zbJanuary 1, 2023

You have to take a look at the conversation Szybala had with a representative from United. Even after explaining that she could see her luggage was at some random residential apartment complex and finding other pieces of luggage by the dumpster behind the building, the representative said that her luggage was at the “delivery service distribution center.”
Anyone wondering why I felt compelled to take this to social media, check out my most recent chat with one of their support reps through the @united app: pic.twitter.com/hxUu3jQaxjJanuary 2, 2023

Oddly, her luggage made multiple trips away from the complex — sometimes to McDonald’s — but would return again to the apartment building.
Incredibly, Valerie eventually got her luggage back after being texted by someone who claimed they were from DCA Couriers United. The “courier” eventually puts Valerie outside of the complex where two news crews had also shown up to witness the return of the lost bag.
WHEW this has been a wild ride y’all. I’m happy to report that I got my bag back!!! I’ll give more details & lessons learned later. For now wanna say thank you for all of the support, and shout out to the building resident and local news crews who came out to help =) pic.twitter.com/hCDXMreiDCJanuary 2, 2023

Apple’s AirTag strikes again
United has not formally responded to the situation at this point yet, but it certainly has some explaining to do, especially after Szybala took photos of luggage sitting next to dumpsters outside of a random building that was definitely not near the airport.
Apple’s AirTag has been in the news for a number of reasons. While some stories are quite concerning and involve people using them for nefarious purposes like stalking, others are positive like Valerie’s.
The little item tracker, which can keep track of keys, bags, and more, integrates with Apple’s Find My network. If you want to find the best way to deploy AirTag across your life, check out our list of the Best AirTag Accessories in 2022.
Focus modes were added with iOS 15 in 2021 and, largely, they passed me by. But Apple expanded the feature with iOS 16, adding Focus Filters to the mix. And they’ve changed the game entirely.
Focus modes were built to let people choose which apps were available at any given moment, effectively blocking them from view and controlling which notifications could punch through. It was marketed as a way for people to be more intentional about how they use their iPhones and iPads. And I thought it was a waste of time.
Not only were they overly complicated to set up and use, but Focus modes never really seemed to do what they were supposed to. Sure, you could set up different Home screens and whatnot, but why bother?
And then Focus filters arrived with iOS 16 and changed everything. And I think they can change everything for you this new year, too.
So much more than Focus modes
So what are Focus Filters exactly?
In short, Focus Filters do what Focus modes should have done all along by not just hiding entire apps from view, but dipping inside them and controlling what kinds of data those apps do and do not display.
What does that mean? It means all kinds of things. You can have your calendar app only display work calendars when you’re actually working, for example. The same goes for your email, too. And that’s just the start. If the app you use has been updated to add support for Focus Filters, you can tailor your entire iPhone and iPad experience to match your needs. And at any given time, too.
How I’m using Focus Filters to be more present
As someone who works from home and freelance, it’s very easy to find yourself working all the time. Not necessarily sitting at a keyboard and bashing out words, but working in the general sense. Checking emails, keeping tabs on what’s going on in the Apple world, that kind of thing. If I’m not careful I find myself doing that all the time — in the evenings and, most problematic, during the weekends.
While there’s a school of thought that I should just be a big grown-up and control myself, I’ve proven pretty categorically that I can’t do that. Enter Focus Filters.
I was skeptical about what Focus Filters could offer mainly because Focus modes were so, well, “meh.” But after using them for a few months I can say that they’ve changed my weekends. Changing my life might be a bit much, but it’s a start!
It’s all surprisingly simple, but the key is that it’s also automatic.
On Saturday morning my weekend Focus mode kicks in, bringing the new Focus filters with it. That means that my iPhone’s wallpaper changes to a photo of my wife and kids and my Apple Watch Ultra does the same — yes, this works on the Apple Watch as well.
The same Focus mode reorganizes my Home screen to remove most work-related apps and replaces them with the apps I need to keep track of sports scores and whatnot. My work widgets are jettisoned at the same time.
Next, those Focus Filters kick in. And this is where the magic happens.
Focusing on the right things
Fantastic (opens in new tab), my calendaring app of choice, says all of my work calendars and only displays my personal ones. I can get them back if I need to, but at a glance, they don’t exist. I still see when the family appointments are, but I don’t see when Apple’s next event is. Perfect.
It’s the same with the Mail app. My personal email remains, but my (too many) work email accounts no longer show up, and I don’t get any notifications for them either. Again, all that email is there if I need to dip in, but I’m no longer bashed over the head by it.
Messages is another example of where Focus Filters work their magic. At the weekend, only friends and family appear in the entire app. The number of chat conversations that disappear instantly reminds me that I probably don’t have enough friends, but that’s another problem for another day.
Back over in the world of third-party apps, Drafts (opens in new tab) also supports Focus Filters. That means that now, at the weekend, I don’t see any of the notes I made through the week because they’re tagged just so. I dip into Drafts all the time to take quick notes and reminders — it’s brilliant not being confronted with work stuff when I don’t need it.
By the time all of that is done, my devices are completely different to what they were the Friday before. And unlike the sledgehammer that is Focus modes, Focus Filters still gives me access to the apps I need all week round without showing me the content that I don’t need. That’s a huge difference.
Your New Year’s Resolution
All of this brings me back to why I think Focus Filters could be your New Year’s Resolution. They’ve changed my game. And they can change yours, too.
As I said earlier, I’ve been guilty of working too much. And working when I shouldn’t. As a result, I haven’t always been as present as I should have been.
Not anymore.
If, like me, you wish that you could switch off from distractions at the times when that truly matters — when you’re with your loved ones — Focus Filters could be the tool you’ve been waiting for. It isn’t a silver bullet, and the workaholics amongst us will still find work when they want it. But Focus Filters ensure that work doesn’t jump out at you every time you touch your iPhone. It isn’t always present.
Now sure, not touching your iPhone in the first place would be better, I get that. But we live in a world where that just isn’t possible. We use these things for everything, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But we need ways to make them work for us, not against us.
With Focus Filters, I think I might finally have found a way to do that. And for 2023, I think that you could do that too.
A quick look at the release schedule and you’ll soon discover that there are lots of fantastic Apple TV Plus movies coming in 2023.
2022 has been a year where Apple TV Plus, still very much the new kid in town in the streaming game, has proved that it can handle both the smaller, edgier award-winning movies and the giant starry blockbusters. The year began with the receipt of a Best Picture Oscar for tender drama Coda, and has also seen the release of the heartrending character study Causeway and the quirky dramedy Cha Cha Real Smooth. The year ended with two giant movies, with Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell teaming up for Christmas musical Spirited and Will Smith leading powerful action-drama Emancipation.
And, judging by the slate, 2023 promises to be even better.
Remember, if you purchase a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV 4K, or Mac, you’ll get a free Apple TV Plus trial offer for three months and it is most definitely worth giving the free trial a go.
To check out all the streaming service has to offer, you can watch on your Apple TV 4K or any smart TV or streaming stick. In addition, you can watch on your best iPhone, best iPad, or best Mac.
If you enjoy the free trial and decide to invest, or if you’re just on the lookout for some new shows, movies, and documentaries to try out, then Apple TV Plus will set you back about $7 per month.
The Best Apple TV Plus movies coming in 2023
From supremely expensive spy capers to historical epics to spiky thrillers, when it comes to new movies on Apple TV Plus there’s an awful lot to look forward to in 2023. We’ve rounded up seven of them to guide you through the year. Is it worth subscribing to? Judge for yourself with the best Apple TV Plus movies coming in 2023.
Argylle
The most anticipated movie from Apple’s 2023 is undoubtedly spy caper, Argylle.
Adapted from author Ellie Conway’s as-yet unpublished novel and boasts a very starry cast with Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, Ariana DeBose, Rob Delaney all starring , plus singer Dua Lipa in her acting debut.
Matthew Vaughn, who has already racked up billions at the box office with Stardust, X-Men: First Class, and his tongue-in-cheek spy saga Kingsman, directs this movie, which has a budget in excess of $200 million.
There aren’t many plot details available for Argylle, especially as the book is still yet to be published, but we do know that it follows the titular character, a world-class spy suffering from amnesia who is tricked into believing he is a best -selling spy novelist. After his memories and lethal skills return, we watch on as he vows revenge against the shadowy organization he used to work for, the Division.
Argylle is due in March and you can read our deep-dive on the movie here.
Sharper
Marvel star Sebastian Stan, Oscar-winner Julianne Moore, John Lithgow, and Detective Pikachu’s Justice Smith team up for this new thriller, with Benjamin Caron, last seen directing Star Wars’ spin-off Andor, in charge.
Set for a small run in theaters in February, Sharper stars Moore as Madeline, a con woman working her way through Manhattan’s billionaire echelon. And thus far, that’s all we know.
This being a story about con artists, expect plenty of sleight of hands and twists and turns, all set in the most expensive part of New York City. What’s not to love?
Napoleon
In 2023, Apple has bagged Hollywood maestro Ridley Scott and handed him a rather large budget to tell the story of Napoleon Bonaparte, military leader and eventual ruler of France in the early 1800s.
Joaquin Phoenix, who Scott directed as the slimy Emperor Commodus in his Oscar-sweeping epic Gladiator, leads the way as Bonaparte, in a role, he’ll no doubt hope will see him return to the awards’ top table.
The movie will chronicle the rise to power of the man who would become emperor of France through the lens of his volatile relationship with his wife Joséphine, who will be played by Vanessa Kirby.
Production has been huge with six battle sequences shot and a shoot that straightened one of the UK’s largest cathedrals to recreate Notre Dame de Paris. Watch it on the biggest screen you can.
Tetris
Taron Egerton made Black Bird, one of Apple TV Plus’ finest dramas, in 2022, and he’s back on the platform in 2023 with Tetris, which will bring to life the legal battles that took place during the Cold War over ownership of the game, just as it was become of the world’s most popular to play and gaming devices were expanding at a rapid rate.
Jon S. Baird, who directed the acclaimed biopic Stan & Ollie, is at the helm, with Egerton supported by Toby Jones and Nikita Yefremov in the cast.
Expect this to arrive in March.
Killers of the Flower Moon
We’ve waited a long time to see Killers of the Flower Moon, with work starting in 2016 on adapting David Grann’s book, a year before the thing actually came out. Why is everyone so excited? Because it reunites Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, and that is always where sparks fly.
Set in Oklahoma in the 1920s, the movie will retell the tragic episode in the history of the Native American Osage tribe, members of whom keep being murdered under mysterious circumstances, sparking a major FBI investigation. It’s an investigation made all the more complex after vast amounts of oil is discovered on Osage land…
As well as DiCaprio, Scorses has cast Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone, and Brendan Fraser, with Eric Roth, writer of the new take on Dune, scripting the movie.
With a budget north of $200 million, expectations are rather high, but with this cast and creative team, you’d back them to succeed.
Spellbound
After enjoying success with the animated family adventure, Luck, in the summer of 2022, Apple has reteamed with producer Skydance for another animated adventure.
West Side Story star Rachel Zegler voices Ellian, a young girl who must use her magical powers after she is given the unenviable task of breaking the spell that has spilled her kingdom in two, all the while protecting her family from rather nasty dark forces.
As well as Zegler, the voice cast includes Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, and Nathan Lane.
Ghosted
We don’t know much about Ghosted’s plot, but we do know that an awful lot of on and off-screen talent has gone into making it. Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Adrien Brody, and Amy Sedaris will star in it, Rocketman’s Dexter Fletcher is directing it and Deadpool scribe Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick have written it.
Beyond that, all we know is it’s a high-concept romantic action-adventure and it’s arriving at the end of 2023. Still, with that creative team, we’re backing it to be a hit all the same.
If you want to install Windows on your Intel-based Mac, then Boot Camp is the best way to do it. Whether it’s for a great gaming experience or you just want to try out how Windows 10 feels on Apple’s svelte hardware, here’s how to get everything set up.
It’s worth nothing that some of the newer Macs from late 2020 onwards have Apple Silicon processors, which will no longer support Boot Camp. In this case, virtualization software like Parallels will be necessary to install Windows 10 instead.
In this guide we’ll walk you through the steps you’ll need to follow to install Windows 10 on your older Mac.
What you’ll need before you install Windows 10 on your Mac
Before starting anything else, be sure you have a Mac that supports Windows 10. Straight from Apple, these are the compatible models:
MacBook Pro (2012 and later)
MacBook Air (2012 and later)
MacBook (2015 and later)
iMac Pro (2017)
iMac (2012 and later)*
Mac mini (2012 and later)
Mac mini Server (Late 2012)
Mac Pro (Late 2013)
If you own an iMac with 3TB or more, check out this Apple Document Support (opens in new tab)for more information on installing Windows 10 on your machine through Boot Camp.
Once you’ve confirmed that you have a Mac that can run Windows 10, you’ll need to make sure you have at least 64GB of free space on your hard drive for the Windows installation. During the installation process, you can set the Windows partition to whatever size you want, as long as the drive has enough storage.
Finally, update your Mac’s OS to ensure there are no compatibility problems. You’ll also want to perform a backup of your Mac in the (rare) case that something goes wrong.
How to download the Windows 10 ISO file
To start, we need to grab a Windows 10 ISO file from the Microsoft website. You can download it straight to your internal hard drive.
Click Windows 10 (multi-edition ISO) in the Windows 10 section. You can download the Creators Update through Windows once it is installed.
Click confirm.
Click the drop down menu below Select the product language.

Click 64-bit Download.
Click Save. The ISO file will now be downloaded.
Once the file has finished downloading, continue on to the next set of steps.
How to install Windows 10 with Boot Camp
Once you’ve downloaded a Windows 10 ISO, you can complete the following steps.
Launch Boot Camp Assistant from the Utilities folder in Apps.
Click keep on going. Boot Camp should automatically locate the ISO file on your system.
Click and drag the slider in the partition section. It will be set to 48GB by default, but you can add as much storage as you want within the limits of the drive.

Windows 10 will now boot fully, and you’ll be able to use Windows normally.
How to install Boot Camp software on your Windows 10 partition
When Windows 10 loads for the first time on your Mac, a Boot Camp software installer will automatically pop up.
Click Install.
Click I accept the terms in the license agreement.
Click Install.
Click Finish when the installation is complete.
This is an important process, as it installs a bunch of drivers and software that will help make your Windows 10 experience as good as possible on your Mac.
How to return to macOS from Windows 10
One of the best parts of Boot Camp is how easy it is to switch back and forth between operating systems.
Click the Show hidden icons button in the Windows 10 taskbar.
Click the boot camp button.
Click Restart in OS X.
Your Mac will now restart, and you’ll be brought right back to macOS. To get back to Windows 10, and indeed another way to switch from Windows 10 to macOS, is to restart your Mac and hold down the Option key on your keyboard until a boot menu appears. From here, you can choose which OS to load.

The easiest way to do so is to use Windows Update.
Click the Start button.
Click the Settings button. It looks like a gear.
Click Update & security.
Click Check for updates.
The Creators Update should begin downloading and will install. Follow the steps on screen, and you’ll be up to date in no time.
iPad screenshots are great for capturing and sharing epic victories from your games, great moments from your videos, feedback on your projects, bugs you want to report, or almost anything and everything you see on your screen.
The process for taking an iPad screenshot differs slightly between models, whether you have an older iPad or the newer iPad Pro with M2 (2022), but it’s as simple as clicking a couple of buttons at once regardless of which of the best iPads you’ rocking again.
In this guide we’ll walk you through the different methods for the different kinds of iPad.
How to take a screenshot on an iPad without a Home button
If you’re using one of Apple’s modern iPad Air, iPad Pro, or iPad mini models, you may be wondering how to take a screenshot without a Home button. Don’t worry, Apple has thought of this and moved the functionality to the volume buttons. Here’s how to take a screenshot on iPad models without a Home button.
On the screen you want to capture, click the top button and either volume button at the same time.
Quickly release both buttons.
The screen will flash white and you will hear the sound of the camera shutter clicking (if your sound is enabled). You’ll see a thumbnail temporarily appear in the lower-left corner of your screen if you’ve done this correctly. You can tap this thumbnail to view your screenshot, edit it, share it, or apply Instant Markup annotations.
How to take a screenshot on an iPad with a Home button
If you are running an older iPad model or Apple’s latest entry-level iPad and still have a Home button at your disposal, this is used instead of a volume button for screenshotting purposes.
On the screen you want to capture, click the top button and home button at the same time.
Quickly release both buttons.
As with the Home button-less iPad models, you’ll see the screen flash white, hear the camera shutter sound, and notice a temporary thumbnail of your screenshot appear in the lower-left corner of your screen.
How to take a screenshot on an iPad with a swipe gesture
In iPadOS, Apple has implemented the ability to use your finger or Apple Pencil to take a screenshot, including turning full web pages into PDFs that you can immediately edit with Instant Markup tools.
First, you’ll need to make sure the feature is turned on. Here’s how to do that.
Open Settings.
Tap on General.
Tap on Gestures.
Turn on Allow Finger to Swipe From Corner if you wish to use your finger in addition to or instead of an Apple Pencil.
Tap on Left Corner Swipe gold Right Corner Swipe.
Ensure screenshot is selected for at least one of the corners.
Now you have this swipe-to-screenshot gesture set up, you can go ahead and use it. Here’s how.
On the screen you want to capture, place your finger gold Apple Pencil in the bottom-left or bottom-right corner of the screen
Drag the corner of the screen toward the center and let go.
Complete any edits gold markups you wish to make.
Tap Done.
Tap Save to Photos gold Save to Files depending on where you want to save the screenshot.
How to find your screenshots on your iPad or iPad Pro
You can view your screenshots at any time in the Photos app and even edit, annotate, and share them from there.
Launch the Pictures app from your Home screen.
Tap on Albums.
Tap on screenshots.
You can also find your screenshots in the main Photos and Camera albums but you’ll have to scroll through everything else as well.
snap and share
Screenshots are a great tool for sharing info, capturing something for later reference, or marking up content on-screen. It’s also one of the best iPad features for getting technical support as you can provide a visual to whoever is helping you out. No matter what you need to screenshot, you now know how to do it.

Pokemon Go’s October Community Day is just around the corner. This month’s event takes place this Saturday and gives players more chances to catch the ghost Pokemon Litwick. Not only that, there will also be a slew of other in-game bonuses to take advantage of, including increased candy and XP.
Here’s everything you need to know about October’s Community Day.
When is October’s Community Day?
October’s Community Day takes place Saturday, Oct. 15. The event proper runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. local time, with bonus Lampent raids continuing afterward until 10 p.m. local time.
October’s featured Pokemon: Litwick
The star of this month’s Community Day is Litwick, a fire/ghost Pokemon first introduced in Pokemon Black and White.
Throughout the event, Litwick will be appearing in the wild more frequently than normal, giving you more chances to catch some and stock up on Litwick candy. You’ll need this candy to evolve the Pokemon into its next two forms, Lampent and Chandelure.
You can also encounter Litwick through a paid event-exclusive Special Research story called Trick of the Light. You can purchase a ticket to access this Special Research through Pokemon Go’s in-game item shop for $1.
How to get shiny Litwick
With increased Litwick spawns, you’ll have a much better chance of encountering a shiny Litwick during October’s Community Day. There’s no guaranteed way to ensure you find one, but you’ll increase your chances by using an incense. More Litwick will spawn on the map while your incense is active, so keep at it and you’ll eventually find a shiny one.
Event move: Poltergeist
Not only will Litwick be appearing more frequently during October’s Community Day, but it’ll also be able to learn a special event-exclusive attack upon evolving.
Each Lampet you evolve into Chandelure before 10 p.m. local time will learn the ghost-type Charged Attack Poltergeist. This move has 140 power in both trainer battles and gyms/raids.
Other bonuses
In addition to increased Litwick spawns, a few in-game bonuses will be active during October’s Community Day. You’ll earn triple XP and double candy each time you catch a Pokemon during the event, and players who are level 31 or higher will have an increased chance of getting Candy XL.
On top of that, any Lure Modules or incense you use will remain active for three hours rather than their usual duration. Trading Pokemon with other players will also require half the regular amount of Stardust, and you can make one additional Special Trade during the event.
Finally, bonus Lampent raids will be occurring at gyms from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. local time. Each time you defeat the raid boss, there will be increased Litwick spawns around the host gym for 30 minutes.
On December 26, a woman who had plummeted 200 feet below the roadway in her vehicle was found and rescued by the San Bernardino County Fire Department after her family used her iPhone’s Find My feature to locate her. According to reports, the family members grew concerned when they hadn’t heard from her after she left a family gathering and used this iPhone feature to check her location. When they saw the map indicating that she was off to the side of the road they called for help.
The vehicle was found “over the side & well off the roadway.” It’s believed that the woman was likely in the car overnight following the crash. Since it was 200 feet below the roadway, rescuers had to set up a capstan raising system to lift her up to a waiting ambulance. According to a Facebook post by the San Bernardino County Fire Department (opens in new tab), the woman had “serious injuries” and “crews initiated advanced life support (ALS) interventions” before transporting her to a trauma center. She is currently being tended to.
Find My was first introduced to Apple devices in 2010 as a perk for MobileMe users but then became widely available as a free feature for all iPhones in 2011. This feature along with Crash Detection and Emergency SOS, which first launched with iPhone 14, have helped to locate and save a number of people from car crashes.
Earlier this year, Emergency SOS via Satellite released for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro in select countries and it will be coming to even more countries in 2023. This new feature enables “messaging with emergency services when outside of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage” using satellite connections to assist those who need it. It’s already proven to be helpful like for a couple who had crashed into a canyon earlier this month.
The 11-inch iPad Pro (2021) is one of our favorite iPads. Here, you get a beautiful Liquid Retina display that is much more portable than its larger sibling, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. While you aren’t getting the Liquid Retina XDR display of the 12.9-inch size, you do get Apple’s powerful M1 silicon chip. And honestly, that Liquid Retina display is still impressive.
The screen on an 11-inch iPad Pro will likely go through a lot of use, especially with the Apple Pencil, so it’s important to have a great screen protector to keep your device safe from scratches, fingerprints, and other mishaps — especially since that screen can be costly to replace. While there are many on the market at different price points, here are what we think are the best screen protectors for the 11-inch iPad Pro.
Our pick of the best screen protectors for 11-inch iPad Pro

Even though it’s super tough, it’s also incredibly thin and offers crystal clear clarity. To make installation easy, ESR provides an alignment frame, and there are also camera lens protectors too.
The 11-inch iPad Pro differences you need to know about
While the new 11-inch iPad Pro (2021) has the same dimensions as the 2020 model, there are some very slight differences with the sensors in the front camera. Since the 2020 model uses a 7MP TrueDepth camera while the 2021 uses a 12MP TrueDepth camera and has a 122-degree field of view with extra features like Center Stage, the sensors for the front-facing camera are slightly different. This affects compatibility with certain screen protectors.
Most of the screen protectors that we have included in this collection are designed to be compatible with both, and even state this in the product description or the questions section on Amazon. But if you are concerned about compatibility, double-check the compatible years for the screen protector you are looking at first before purchasing.
How to choose the best screen protectors for 11-inch iPad Pro
Our top recommendation is the amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector. We’ve been using amFilm accessories for a few devices, like the Nintendo Switch, and it’s always a great choice. It’s easy to apply with no worries about air bubbles or debris getting stuck, and it blends in well, so you don’t even remember that it’s there. It’s also super affordable, so what’s not to love about that?
If you want a big-name brand, then the ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass Plus is a great option. It has three times the shatter protection for your 11-inch iPad Pro screen, so you definitely don’t need to worry about anything happening to it with this on. ZAGG makes high-quality products, and InvisibleShield is one of its top accessories. There’s a reason it’s pricey compared to other options.
