0.197.0 APK Breakdown: Pokébox tag searching, Feather Dance, and Subscriptions

Pokémon GO Datamine

Hello coaches! Pokémon GO 0.197.0 is rolling out slowly, looking for tags and XL candy, additional egg help dialogs, screenshot editing tools, oh, and something about a subscription …

What? There are no official release notes yet. Please read this data mining report with a grain of salt. We have no idea what the subscription code refers to, or whether it really is a subscription in a traditional sense or frankly.

🚨⚠️ Disclaimer ⚠️🚨

Note that data miners have publicly reported everything in this article (PokéMiners). Information shared through these channels is not affiliated with or endorsed by Niantic and is always subject to change. Don’t take it for granted, functions change and are removed all the time. It is very important that you know that these things CAN AND WILL CHANGE.

Additionally, this article contains my thoughts and opinions regarding the code that was shared online; All of these should be treated as guesses, not hard statements. If you agree with that, feel free to read on. Possible spoilers ahead.

Pokébox Search

BY_TAG

With this update, Trainers will be able to search for Pokémon using the tags they have created. So if you have a “Start” tag, just type “Start” in the search bar and all your Pokémon that have that tag will appear. I, for one, am very excited about this.

BY_CANDY_XL

The search term “candyxl” will show any Pokémon that have passed level 40.

Feather dance

fx/attacks/feather_dance

Animation has been added for the Feather Dance move, but the move itself has not. So you can see the feather dance, but you can’t really … dance with the feathers?

Extra help with egg

EggExtraHelpDialog
eggstraEggIcon

Some dialogs have been added for additional help with the egg. This is probably to display the previously discovered egg transparency texts.

Select all Toggle

ShowSelectAllButton

The Select All button will only appear when you start searching for something now.

Leveling up statistics

RESOURCE ID: level_up_stats_pokemon_caught
TEXT: Pokémon Caught

RESOURCE ID: level_up_stats_pokestops_visited
TEXT: PokéStops Visited

RESOURCE ID: level_up_stats_raids_won
TEXT: Raids Won

RESOURCE ID: level_up_stats_title
TEXT: Previous Level Activity

New texts for when you level up, it seems that some new stats like captured Pokémon, Visited PokéStops and Won raids will be displayed.

CP multiplier at the minimum level of Candy XL

.get_CpMultiplierAtXlCandyMinLevel

No clue

Discard Pokémon Inventories

DismissAllPokemonInventories

I have no idea about this either …

POI editing

FeatureAccessibility
DisabledUnavailable
DisabledBelowMinimumLevel
DisabledOutOfRange
DisabledOutOfSubmissions
IsPoiEditFeatureAccessibleForPlayer
IsPlayerAtMinimumLevelReq
IsPlayerWithinDistanceReq
IsPlayersSubmissionCountExhausted

A new accessibility section has been added for POI editing. It seems there are more ways to disable the feature based on specific conditions.

Editor tools

ProductionScreenCapture
Niantic.Holoholo.EditorTools
.get_CaptureCamera CaptureUntil
.get_IsCapturingSequence
CaptureToDirectory
GetNewSequenceTakeDirectory
.get_LastCapturePath
DirectoryPath
CaptureSpeed
TransparentBackground
CaptureDuration
CaptureFps

These seem to be some basic editing tools for screen capture.

Borderless and Borderless Type Icons
useBorderedTypeIcon

In the last major update, icons with borders were discovered, added the switch to activate them in this update.

Rotom example of Sprite assignments

Some sprites have new texture mappings added, see examples above. There are no real new sprites, just new assignments.

Sponsored updates

sponsoredNormalTextRoot
sponsoredScrollingTextRoot
sponsoredButton
OnClickCallToActionButton

Some updates on how sponsored texts appear and a button for when you really want to interact with the sponsored ad.

Ditto extension library

Niantic.Platform.DittoExtensions.dll

A new extension library from Ditto. Probably to handle the next brilliant ditto release. HYPE!

Ok… I saved this part for last. Why…

Subscriptions

Niantic.Platform.Iap.dll

A new library for in-app purchases, speculation is related to subscription service based on code location.

SubscriptionState
ACTIVE
CANCELLED
EXPIRED
GRACE_PERIOD
FREE_TRIAL
PENDING_PURCHASE
AutoRenewDate
ValidatedSubscriptionSkuInfo

The subscription service appears to be a new item that will be available in the store and has several different statuses. It looks like there will be a free trial and the ability to set up automatic renewal.

.get_SubscriptionId
.set_SubscriptionId
isVendorItem
canBePurchased
virtualCurrencyPrice
virtualCurrencyGranted
presentationData
isActiveSubscription
TIMEOUT_MS RETRY_DELAY_MS

This is all part of the in-app purchases section, probably a revamp of some of the backend stuff in the store.

Conclusions and speculations

Subscriptions are coming in, it’s just a question of when right now. There are a lot of different directions they can do with this, so it’s hard to say whether or not they’ll be worth it until they go live. I know there is a large part of the Pokémon Go Community that is not happy with the prospect of subscriptions, I hope they do not come out with subscriptions that give exorbitant rewards.

We also don’t know how much they will cost or for how long you’ll be able to subscribe before having to renew. Or what will be included, I imagine that the tickets for the community day will be part of the subscriptions, but beyond that, it is too early to tell. What do you think about the potential of subscriptions? Excited? Shocked? Waiting to see? Let me know in the comments below.

On another note, being able to search for tags in your Pokébox is awesome, it’s something I wanted immediately when the tags were released so I’m really glad to see it added.

That’s it for now coaches. As always, stay safe out there!
